HOPE SPOT

Hope Spots are special ocean places that have been scientifically identified as critical to the health of the oceans. Hope Spots are championed by local conservationists intent on protecting their part of the ocean and are supported by the Mission Blue organization. Mission Blue is the passion of marine biologist, oceanographer, and explorer Dr. Sylvia Earle. Dr. Earle was the first female chief scientist of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and was named by Time magazine in 1998 as its first Hero of the Planet. Dr. Earle's goal for Mission Blue is to inspire action to explore and protect the ocean. Mission Blue started in 2009 with the goal of protecting 30% of the world's ocean by 2030 through Hope Spots. As of August 2022, there are 145 Hope Spots in 69 countries around the globe that cover 16% of the ocean's area.

Scuba Weather invites you to support the efforts of Mission Blue and visit today's Hope Spot . Use the Deep Dive feature to learn more about today's special Hope Spot.
