The DORI was a 134.4 metre long Liberian cargo ship that leaked and was beached on January 16, 1964 when enroute to New Orleans with a cargo of steel coils. The ship was a Liberty EC2-S-C1 class ship built by the Bethelehem Shipbuilding Corp in 1943 and christened as the SS Edwin L. Drake . It was named after Edwin Laurentine Drake, also known as Colonel Drake, the first American to successfully drill for oil. The ship went through a number of owners before becoming the Dori in 1962.
