The Ocean Atlas is a 5-m tall, 60 ton sculpture depicting a young Bahamian girl kneeling on the bottom and holding the weight of the ocean on her shoulder. This is meant to be similar to Atlas, the Titan who held the world on his shoulder. The sculpture is the work of Jason deCaires Taylor and is the largest underwater sculpture in the world. In the words of the sculptor, “Empower the youth so they can help rectify the endless mistakes we have made.” Mr Taylor is also the creator of the Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park in Grenada, the MUSA in Cancun, the Museo Atlantico off the island of Lanzarote, Spain, the Coral Greenhouse on the John Brewer reef in Australia, the Coralarium in the Maldives, and others in the UK, Indonesia, France and Cyprus. For more information about the sculpture please visit Ocean Atlas. Mr Taylor has works in eleven countries around the world.
