On September 30th, 1977 the Panamanian cargo vessel Superior Producer was preparing to leave on a voyage from Willemstad to Pampatar, Venezuela. By all accounts the 50 m long vessel was overloaded and no sooner had the lines been cast when the troubles began. The ship began to list, the cargo shifted, and all efforts to right the vessel failed. The harbor master ordered the vessel to be towed out of the harbor entrance, where it finally sank, coming to rest in an upright and intact position in just over 100 feet of water. The big open cargo holds makes for easy penetration and marine life is abundant. One of the highlights is the wheelhouse which is at a depth of 80 ft. The vessel lies between two cruise ship mega-piers, and cannot be dove on when there are cruise ships docked.
