The MV Hema I was a 167-ft coastal freighter that foundered on March 5th 2005 after springing a leak that could not be stopped. The Hema was built in Kiel, Germany in 1963, named the MV Thomas Stevns , and plyed the Baltic Sea under the Danish flag. The vessel was eventually sold, brought to the Caribbean, renamed the Hema I by its new owners, and used for transporting cargo in the Caribbean. On March 5th the Hema had just left Grenada for Trinidad when it sprang a leak that could not be stopped and sank. The vessel lies on its port side in 98 feet of water. It is known to be in a region of strong currents. The dive is considered to be very challenging.
