The USS Ransom (AM-283) was an Admirable class minesweeper built for the United States Navy during World War II. She received three battle stars for service in the Pacific. She was decommissioned on March 3, 1947 and sold to the Mexican Navy on October 2, 1962, along with 17 other sister ships. She was commissioned as ARM (Armade de Mexico) DM-12. In 1994 she was renamed ARM Teniente Juan de la Barrera (C-55). C-55 was scuttled to serve as an artificial reef in October 2000 by then Mexican president Ernesto Zedillo, a diver himself. The vessel came to rest upright on a sandy bottom at 75 ft. On October 21-22, 2005 the category 4 Hurricane Wilma broke the shipwreck into two pieces leaving only the aft section upright and intact.
